Haggard Hawks, voting and other important things

Are you up for a puzzle? I haven't offered one in a while, one thing and another. I did this one last night, and was pleased to be able to.

The letters provided are each used once.

And my PT has been pressing me to drive. I think he's concerned that I might get too nervous if I don't just go ahead and try it. We already established that I can get in on the driver's side.

So I decided to make a destination drive, to the voting dropbox to cast my ballot, thereby getting two birds.

We're voting in the primary for Governor and various county and local offices

I did other administrivia, too, voting for Board members of my HOA, donation to local rescue squad, studying yet another increase in my gap health insurance before sighing and filing.  All my civic duties done.

I read this yesterday

Chick lit, I guess - a romance and a puzzle and very readable to the end, with surprises, which I hadn't suspected.

Then I found this, at no cost, so why not, I've never read it, just seen the video version.

Another classic to explore. I do like Kindle reading as much as audiobooks.

And just for the halibut

Happy day everyone, what's your stretch goal, if any, today? Mine is the short drive, doesn't sound like much, but it's looming.

  1. I shouldn't admit it but it took me a few seconds to understand the cartoon. Then I laughed! I haven't read Howards End, either. Only saw the film. You are doing so well. Good on you.

  2. Even with a cartoon that obvious it took me a moment to get it. I would think Howard’s End would be a wonderful read. Sorry about skipping the puzzle. I’m a bit obsessed with NY Times puzzles every day and need to wean myself from them. I do them all and then go back to crossword archives. I’m working my way up and am in 1999 now.

  3. I do a crossword every morning while eating my breakfast. I've never done one like the one you have in your post.
I marched in a May Day protest yesterday evening and there was a really good turnout. "Hey Hey, Ho Ho, Donald Trump has got to go!" :)

  4. I didn't get the cartoon at first because for some reason my eyes saw the word "rabbit." Read it again and laughed.

  5. I've never read Howard's End, but I did watch the recent (well, 2017) British TV series made of it with Hayley Atwell and Matthew Macfadyen. I didn't particularly enjoy it because all the characters annoyed me.

    1. There are better Forster productions, where the acting helps us accept the annoying characters as doing their best.

  6. I am amazed that you are allowed to drive already - you are healing fast! Sounds like the brain fog is lifting too. All steps in the right direction.

    1. It helps that it's the left hip, so the main issue is getting in and out safely. They wouldn't have signed off on driving this soon if I'd taken any of the narcotics though.

  8. Liked the cartoon.
You are just getting 'er done!
My stretch today is going to see the dock that came with a log cabin. This will be my second visit. I am going to have to stretch my mind to be able to see the positives. Wish me luck, please.

  9. Yes to driving. My stretch goal is to go looking for ducklings at the lake this morning. So far the sun is hiding behind clouds, so not as much worry about that (due to meds that say no sun), and I'm only a bit of breathing limited feelings so far...so perhaps I can walk around the lake a bit. That's a big perhaps, but I've my trusty phone along; and will at least come home with luch from the senior center which is closed still but giving the COA lunches out still.

  10. I read "Howard's End" years ago and enjoyed it a lot, for what it's worth. I've always liked Forster, mostly as a result of Merchant-Ivory movies.

    1. I think the movies do a great favor to his novels. They really lift them above their quality. Nice. But I'll still read the original today.

  11. So glad you did a bit of driving and voted too. I have actually read Howard's End many years ago. My eyes are not great so reading is difficult for me now.

    1. That production is much better than the original novel, as I'm reading it so far.. Their screenplays were so much better pointed and edited.
      I'll push on, though.
