Easter, Mother's Day, pearlworthy

Today we celebrated belated Easter and early Mother's Day. I thought HS had done quite enough for me this year, without doing anything special next Sunday.

My bit consisted of setting up the cheese board, the table and some vegetables.  And making his favorite Colman mustard. He brought ham, more vegetables, tiny chocolate eggs and jelly beans.

I sported The Pearls! It's a family joke that they come out for special occasions, even if I'm wearing t-shirt and jeans.

It was a lovely relaxed easy time, and we took our tea outside on the deck where we watched a merlin fly over the suddenly quiet area, first sighting this year,  not a bird moved, this picture right before the sighting

and I found this on the Japanese maple.

I think it's a gall. I removed it and the branch looked undamaged. I must learn more. If any blogista knows more, please say.

After Handsome Son left, I watched Textiles and Tea with famous Scottish tapestry and paper artist, Joanne Soroka. She wrote a classic book on tapestry weaving, and her own work in paper and in fiber, breaks barriers.

Here she's showing miniature tapestries based on Japanese boro work, originally patching to save fabric, then recognized as an art form

These two pieces below were commissioned for a super yacht!

And here's a collaged weaving

this piece is about the losses of the covid period, and you see it behind her in her studio

She works mainly in linen and cotton, very little wool, unusual for tapestry. And her work makes me want to warp up my handheld loom and weave, always a sign of a quality artist!

Happy day everyone! I definitely had one. The rain and thunder held off till early evening, very obliging.

  1. What a lovely photo of you and your pearls! Do you ever clutch them in dismay?! Now that HS has returned to his home you have really moved onto the next step of getting better and back into your normal routines.

    1. Yes, they're for clutching when necessary. It feels so normal now. It was lovely having him here, and now we're both glad to be home.

  6. Happy belated Easter and early Mother's Day - and a celebration of independence (for both of you). I continue to be so impressed both with HS, and with your mutual relationship.

Artistic inspiration stirs - another sure sign of recovery.

  7. What a wonderful son to celebrate Mother’s Day with you. Even if it’s a little early
You don’t need a reason to wear purls. They’re lovely

    1. I luv my pearls! HS has always spent time with me for mother's day, usually a different day because he works Sundays. I've always declined flowers and lunch because too expensive for no reason. His company is the best gift.

  9. With my knowledge of New Jersey being limited to Stephanie Plum and the Sopranos it's always a surprise to hear about merlins and nature.

    1. Visitors are often surprised to find this is the Garden State, mostly ag, outside a few cities, wild areas, great shore, etc. We're on the Eastern Flyway, great bird sightings particularly now, warbler migration.

    1. I have several mustards and can count on HS picking the Colman's. I think it's his DNA.

  11. My kids are already talking about Mother's Day and asking what I want to do.
We just had Easter! Could we...not? Let the mamas among them celebrate with their children. I am tired. Is that horrible?

    1. I think it's perfectly acceptable to say your mother's day request is to have them celebrate in their own families while you stay quietly st home with a jigsaw puzzle.

  18. The picture of you in your pearls made me smile! What a nice celebration with HS. It is such a blessing to have a great relationship with one's child (or children).
So glad you are doing so well and life is getting back to normal. Whoohoo! :)

  19. Seeing you in your pearls reminded me of Irene. She often wore hers to our meetings. I guess she figured our meetings were special enough to warrant them.

  20. For months, I wore my pearls. A quiet support of good sense and normalcy. Putting them on now just makes me sad to remember how sure I was that we would surely not elect him twice.
