I had planned on a couple of errands today involving carrying stuff, as well as a library pickup, while my cleaners were working at the house.
But this changed my mind
I wasn't up for getting wet several times, and maneuvering in and out of the car likewise.
So I went to the library anyway to pick up my DVD of a later production of Cheaper by the Dozen.
This is the Steve Martin production, and I think there's another later one. Anyway this is what my library had.
First time I've driven in heavy rain since Hippolyta, first time I've been to the library for an extended time, sitting on those way too big seats, and it was okay. Certainly nothing like the pain involved in doing this in Helen's time. I'm getting less awkward in and out of the car, too, less worried about it.
Soon I'll have run out of firsts, and it will all be just everyday life. I'm looking forward to not being a patient, even to the end of my time with PT Emil. It means a return to good health, though I've really appreciated the work we've done. I'm far better off than I would have been.
So, all good, and here's my views. People on the right playing chess. After they left, a man was showing his little boy the moves.
And the puzzle table where I succeeded in adding one whole piece, after which I retired to read my Angela Thirkell.
Just the right cosy read in rainy weather.
You'll notice no reference to the current gallery exhibit. It's a well meaning try, well framed and organized, print material nicely written and presented, the work of someone who really wants to be seen as an artist. This is quite different from someone who needs to make art and knows how.
Home to cheese, crackers and a pot of tea. The seeds I flung about on the crackers are quite successful, particularly the fennel seeds. I like the licorice flavor of the seeds while not liking at all the actual vegetable. There's something odd about a green salad type veg with licorice, or anise, flavor, to me.
This afternoon will be a movie matinee, maybe with more tea. Also laundry, my cleaning family using mops and cloths galore. My part is to leave them mops, cloths and cleaning liquids and a check. They take it from there. Suits me.
Lovely day, though I'd been apprehensive about stormy driving and slippery walking, now I'm glad I did it. I carried Carol Cane but didn't actually use it. Just in case of skidding.
Happy day everyone, take a little chance, you might be glad.
Every jigsaw piece advances the whole!
ReplyDeleteThat's my story too.
DeleteThat looks like a terrific library! I'm lucky to have a really nice library in my city, too. I use it a lot! Glad you are doing so well with your new hip!
ReplyDeleteIt' s a great library, and there's another floor, the children's department above what you can see. For a town of only 22,000 people, it's good, also very well used.
DeleteI have never named my ailments like you do, but I like that you do it. I haven’t named my cane either. My car, however, is Hermione the Honda. The previous one, also a Honda, was Harriet the Chariot.
ReplyDeleteI haven't named my cars, but hearing aids, yes, hips, yes, assists like cane and walker, yes.
DeleteIt must have been the 1950s version of Cheaper by the Dozen I remember. I feel so old!
ReplyDeleteClifton Webb and Myrna loy! I did, too but I can only rent or buy that. I can borrow this later one.
ReplyDeleteFunny--I talk to my body parts that are giving me grief, all animals, plants, and many inanimate objects...but I have only given names to the tame critters, some plants, and every one of my cars--lol!
ReplyDeleteI have only seen the original version of that movie. I hope you get to see it sometime. Not so easy to find the older or classic movies on streaming services, though. At least you found a newer version of the movie at your nice looking library. :)
I named my hip because it was easier to cope that way. And Mitchell named my new bionic hip. So the various assists seemed to need their names, too. Before then I only named animals.
DeleteI can barely remember the original movie, so long ago. I'm hoping to enjoy this update. I do like my DVD player.
You have made steady progress, Boud. It doesn’t feel so long since you were at the library. Time zips by!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while. It's so good to get back.
ReplyDeleteYour doing exceptionally well. Good on you.
ReplyDeleteThis might seem strange, but I like to eat fennel while watching television, like they’re crisps
I’ve not done that in a while. Might have to get me some
I knew a friend who loved fennel as a snack, too.
DeleteI have gotten through day one, and have taken 3 walks. Each one is ap struggle, but already, I know that I won't be sorry.
ReplyDeleteWell done you! Yes, that first few tries is hard, but you'll soon be so glad. Thank you so much for coming in here so soon.
DeleteA good day and I'm glad you had no problems due to rain.
ReplyDeleteThat gave me pause, but it worked out okay.
DeleteCongratulations on nearing the end of the "firsts". It will be good to get back to your own normal.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a good routine with your cleaners. Glad you made it work even with the rain. (Send some our way, please).
Chris from Boise
We had hours of pouring rain, still not done. I wish it could be diverted to you.
DeleteA nice day despite the rain. I’d still be sitting with the jigsaw puzzle.
ReplyDeleteI'm too impatient to puzzle more than a few pieces, but there are some patrons who come in to work for hours.
DeleteThat library looks like an absolute community treasure. I hope it is well supported.
ReplyDeleteIt's open and buzzing seven days a week. Very much a center of activity.
DeleteSounds like a good day. You are making great progress with Hippolyta.
ReplyDeleteShe and I are a good team.
DeleteAttractive library building - lots of light.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely, and where I was sitting is where you can bring food and drinks. People frequently lunch here!
DeleteGreat library...and just reading last reply I'm amazed they can let food/drinks be welcome in certain area. Naming body parts - I've a few which won't be mentioned here. Some plants that are around for a while, and cars definitely...the Blue Ridge Road Runner now for my Toyota (though only a little of the parkway is currently opened following last fall's storms.)
ReplyDeleteIt was all the rage to have coffee shop areas in libraries and museums when this building was new. It increases the foot traffic. They did try a coffee machine but the library staff got fed up of attending it and I agreed when they abolished it. People bring in their own now. It's a friendly area, where people tutor students over snacks, and do remote meetings etc.
DeleteI always use the library branch which is relatively close to me and although smallish, it is beautiful. Like your library, it implores you to look up!
ReplyDeleteAnd look at you, reclaiming your life from pain and instability. Really, that is what you're doing and it is a beautiful thing to see.
It's a nice thing to experience, too. I notice rainy weather makes its presence felt, with the new hip, but it's still healing, so I suppose not surprising.
DeleteGlad you were able to return to library trips. I would miss ours so much if I couldn't make regular trips there.
ReplyDeleteI get most of my reading online, but it's nice to get there. That's where my Tuesday knitting group meets. But PT has taken my Tuesdays.
