From the humble toaster oven, come words to live by

Made pumpkin soup this morning, farm pumpkin, steamed till tender, then scooped out.  Seeds went out for deliriously happy squirrels, then the pumpkin meat went into the pot.  Olive oil, whole garlic cloves, sumac, turmeric, curry powder, kosher salt, then the pumpkin, with carrot pesto water, chicken liquid from earlier roasting, defatted, chunks of frozen tofu.  Dash of lemon juice.  Chicken bones, pieces of parmigian rind.

Anyway, while this was all gently simmering, ready to be blended, I noticed the toaster oven bringing me a message.

Words to live by.  Wonder if this is the current MO in the Washington investigations?

  1. I have at least one deliriously happy squirrel who went fishing in my black walnuts that were soaking in a 5-gallon bucket. What a mess...several piles of soggy bits of hull at various distances from the bucket. I don't know if the squirrel got nervous and started carrying each new treasure farther from the bucket or if the squirrel got lazy and started staying closer to the bucket. Or if it was 3 or 4 squirrels all dining at a polite yet conversational distance from each other.

  2. Maybe it was a committee meeting. Were the hulls soaking for dyeing? We have a lot of black walnut trees out back, and it's hazardous walking at this time of year, what with broken shells all over.
