Kitchen done! More about keys

This morning's walk was beautiful, cool sunny weather, happy neighbors on their patios, including one who's just finished getting his redone with tiling. He was so pleased when I admired it, though I think hello and yes was the limit of his English, but we communicated anyway.

What happens when you neglect to move the kids' bikes before the landscapers come around.

 The Sleeping Beauty effect.

And this looks like a natural object at this point, so weathered

This morning Michael the Contractor came, caulked the cabinet, chatted about his mother, the food pantry, his noisy neighbors, crunchy tofu, he loves it.

Also I paid him, very fair price, though a stretch for me. I rationalize that it's a once only job. I may have converted him to contribute to the food pantry; he didn't know where it was till now. Also he's going to see if his mother can get the bone density injections I get.  Quite a productive convo.

About locks and keys, when I had the pet care service I had many keys I kept safely, coded for security. One time I got an anguished call from a client, so sorry to disturb me, could I rescue him?

He happened to live close by, which I knew but he didn't, for my security -- I didn't broadcast my address. Anyway he lived in a third floor condo in my development,  only one possible entrance from the staircase.

He was getting his excitable Golden retriever ready for a walk, dog jumped at him, he staggered out the door,  the door slammed shut, he heard the lock drop!

This left the dog inside with the keys, owner locked outside, luckily with phone and my number saved. I brought my copy of his key, let him in, no charge,  and he begged me not to mention it to his wife, who would never let him live it down! I did get a nice Christmas gift that year. No connection I'm sure..

Happy day everyone, try not to let your dog lock you out! You feel pretty silly explaining it when you need help.

Up to now: the Gubbernor ordered the rainbow crosswalk near the Pulse, scene of a mass shooting tragedy, painted over. A crowd of LGBTQ+ people protested with joy, flags and chants and repainted the rainbow. Once more Gov. Boots had it painted black. Once again the rainbow returned. Up to now.

Don't let anyone dim your rainbow! Screenshot this one to preserve it in case Boots paints it over again.

  1. I always left keys with neighbours, after locking myself out a few times...

    1. I gave up on that, after neighbors couldn't find my key! It's here somewhere, I think I put it in this drawer, etc. Or they were away when I needed the key!

  3. Reminds me of an incedent I had here in England. My mother was in hospital in Liverpool about 45 mins away. My father was very much a control person and told the staff that she wasn't to have any visitors with out him being there. So we would visit before his regular visit after lunch, with the staffs help in might add, after visiting I went to my car and got in. I got out to check the boot was shut when he drove past. I ducked down when my little Jack Russel dog jumped up on the door button and locked the doors, keys inside me outside! I couldn't do anything so had to ring my daughter to bring the spare key from home. While she was on her way I had to keep an eye open but fortunately did get seen by my father. He was have given my mum grief which she didn't need. Su in Cheshire UK

    1. That was already a difficult situation even before the dog complicated it.

  4. The bikes have become garden art. I kind of like it. So much can be communicated even when you don’t speak the same language. Poor guy getting locked out. Next thing I’d do is teach the dog how to open the door. Some pets figure that out on their own.

    1. I think this dog was very pleased with his power! And I have neighbors whose attitudes are friendly to this strange old western lady, even if their language skills aren't up to it. There's also the issue of my accent, unlike the typical American speech they've got used to.

  5. Two of my neighbors have keys; they watch my dogs for me while I'm away. It is a nice feeling to trust someone enough to give them your key, I think (and to trust them w/your pets!). DeSantis is just an evil little man. My parents lived in Florida; all the MAGAs there are such huge supporters of his, he can do no wrong.

    1. I have several neighbors keys, which I keep separate in a container, not chucked into the drawer! We have Florida blogistas who are very much opposed to the gov and feel helpless to fight against him and his supporters.

  6. Self-locking doors are a nuisance. A friend of mine was locked outside by her very small children. Eventually, she talked them through unlocking the door, but it was a worrying time.

    1. That and being locked out of your car by your child inside it! I've had that happen.

  7. There was a day, many yers ago. Sue was away, and i was minding the youngest. I locked my keys in the car three times. Somehow, I knew how to jimmy the old-fashioned lock, but I forget the details now. I know I could do it with a coat hanger, but I don’t know what I used on the day. I remember that one of the times was in underground parking.

    1. I got into my car which my little boy had locked, by inserting a wire hanger past the rubber strip around the window and raising the button. But once the strip was metal, in later cars, that option was gone and it took a police call with a slimjim to get in, breaking the lock in the process usually.

  8. One of the battlefields for all minorities in MAGA America is visibility. The policy of erasure demands invisibility. Glad to see people fighting back!

    1. Thank you, that's what I try to do. We don't turn our backs on the news but as we resist evil, we also enjoy ourselves. Thank you for joining in!

  10. Have you ever read any of the Good Dog Carl books? They are children's books and they're wonderful! Mostly pictures. Next time you're at the library, take a peek in the children's section at "Carl Goes to Daycare" which has a storyline about Carl accidentally locking a teacher out of her classroom and what goes on before he lets her back in. My grandkids and I loved that book.
And yes. Our governor is evil. Cruel. Horrid. And he ordered ALL crosswalks to be restored to their original non-art work state by September 3rd or something like that.

  11. Both of my best friends have keys to our apartment but would have to get the super to let them into the building. I sometimes think about the ability for people to do wellness checks should anything untoward happen. The super has our boys phone numbers and both boys know that my friends have keys. Plus which, the super has a master key that lets her into all the apartments should the need arise.
Good on the people for repainting that crosswalk, not only once but three times.

  14. Maga folk live to be offended, threatened by the inconsequential, scared and angry. But they're fine with blatant lying and hurting the "others". Amazing when they find out they can be hurt by Maga actions and decisions, too. We are all "others" to somebody.

  16. Ugh -- DeSantis. He's an awful person.

That is quite a lockout story, from your neighbor! I've been locked out a few times in my life but I can't blame any circumstances that interesting.

    1. That was a bit dramatic. And could have been expensive, locksmiths not coming cheap. Or fast. A rambunctious dog alone there could have wrought a lot of havoc.
