Yesterday millions showed up, thank you!

Tragedy in Minnesota, and triumph in many places, No Kings Day was a day of contrasts. Thank you everyone who was on the right side of history. And especially thank you to Minnesotans who still turned out, refusing to be terrorized out of their right to protest.

Somewhere here in this crowd is blogista Chris! For red Idaho, this is massive. And with great signs. Meanwhile the man who would be king had a quiet day, tanks squeaking down empty streets.

Yesterday we had torrential rain most of the day, and I made this, comfort food.

Baked tomatoes, cheese, baby bellas,  capers and aqua faba. On toast, it was about right for the weather and my needy mood. No idea what to name it.

Back at the lookout, Ted has recruited Big Ursy as a bodyguard, complete with pussy hat from the last time we were in this fight.

Good morning, everyone! Happy day, let's keep up the pressure and the hope. Just for today I'm being low-key. But first, check this out on YouTube. It's the Chicks.

    1. It was good. I need a name for it now. Maybe I'll call it No Kings, to commemorate the day.

    1. It was a wonderful illustration of how many people are like minded about this disastrous time. And those were the able. Millions more couldn't march but have their backs.

  4. It appears that it went about as well as could be hoped.

  5. I have a pussy hat, too, from my Women's march in Chicago January 2017.
It lifted my spirits to see the many, many people marching with me yesterday.

    1. I knitted and sent pussyhats and messages to the DC march that year.

  6. I haven't watched the news, but the British newspapers I have seen are not carrying a lot of information about the No Kings parades. I suppose events in Iran have overtaken. I need to look at some American newspapers.

    1. It's all over the internet. Even msm was forced to cover it. You had your own Not our King demos at Trooping the Color. Did that get coverage?

  7. Politicians in the US must be afraid for their lives after what happened. So sad. It seems like it's the good ones that are targets.
In better news, the marches yesterday seem to have been a rousing success. The news is filled with Iran and with the plane crash and that seems to be overshadowing the coverage of the marches however.

    1. Pols have always had death threats and attempts. It's terrible and not new.
The Middle East is in a ferment, as always, but with different participants this time.

    1. A great surge of like minded solidarity. But such sadness in Minnesota.

  9. Yesterday was deeply sad and disturbing. I just sat and watched the coverage all day until I finally forced myself to turn it off. I am so proud of my fellow Minnesotans who showed up all across the state to tell our government we will not submit and those across the country and the world who did the same.

    1. I thought of you immediately, with sorrow for your loss. Such courage for Minnesotans to turn out despite tragedy and show you can't be terrorized out of your right to peaceful protest.

  10. Good to see all those people out, not just in state capitals like last time

    1. It was huge last time too. Coverage was mainly state capitals, though. There were multiple demos in my small state alone. But you only saw Trenton in the coverage. It's all good.

    1. It was. A huge mass of the population wants to demolish his power and take back our freedoms.

  13. So very sad to hear of the assassinations in my home state! But so proud of my people for coming out in masse even when they were told to stay home till they caught the man! I get teary just thinking about it. Love that many more people came out to protest him than to support him at his parade. He looked so small and pathetic. Made my day! :)

    1. Yes, Tim Walz needed to ask people to stay safe, but I bet he knew Minnesotans would still show up! The "parade" was eclipsed by the numbers of joyful and heartfelt protests.

  15. Yes, it was a tragic day. I couldn't believe it when I read the news. However, look at all the people who came out. I'm so proud of these Americans.

  18. Minnesotans would have had an understandable reason to stay home, and they didn't. It is inspiring.

  19. Where I live, the Jacksonville (FL) Sheriff's Office posted that the protests were peaceful. No one was arrested. It was a good day, although very hot.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing your information, it's encouraging that Florida was up for peaceful assembly despite the governor's attempts to foment violence.
