The season is officially changed, the warm sofa rug now in the laundry, replaced by the white quilt. The loveseat quilt is turned over to show the wedding ring side.
Last evening as soon as I heard about the latest Iran lunacy, I ran to do a bit of seed planting.
Tomatoes, if we are lucky. Complete with squirrel proofing.
Today's walk disturbed many frogs all leaping and diving on the other side of the pond, squirrels unworried, and many bird calls.
I'm hearing a Carolina wren with a variation on the usual teakettle teakettle teakettle TEA. This rugged avian is singing teaKETtle tea KETle TEEEEEE. Maybe it's a local accent. A Joisey boid.
I came home through the street and saw these fun things. A lot of my neighbors do whimsy.
And here's a very tiny bunny.
The gate is about three or four inches from the ground, to show you how small. He's a teacup size.
Happy day everyone, try to find something to be joyful about. Let's not let those people steal what fun we can find.
I like your summer decor! Some years we lift our living room rug when the weather gets warm, but we haven't done it this year. Olga slips around a bit on the wood floors.
ReplyDeleteA very cute bunny, and I laughed at the "Joisey boid."
I'd be careful about an old dog, too. Don't want a dislocation if she falls.
DeleteYour summery decor looks so cool and comfortable. You've made me think that perhaps I should turn the quilt that covers the pullout couch/bed in my sewing room so the lighter side is on top.
ReplyDeleteI'm refusing to listen to the news today...maybe tomorrow. It's too hot here to be incensed at the same time.
I like white and pale colors in summer. They feel cool.
DeleteA sweet little bunny ate the flowers off of my dahlias! I had sprinkled some cayenne pepper around and that seemed to be working but we had a hard rain and I forgot to cover them with the cayenne pepper again.
ReplyDeleteOh well. They only steal the best.
DeleteYour living room looks cheerful. I really like all the art. That is a tiny bunny! Some unpleasant words escaped my mouth when I saw what they did in Iran.
ReplyDeleteI like the changeover. Of course immediately the temp dropped, rain, not summery.
DeleteLooking forward to late tomatoes. Thanks for lightening up my day (so far). I'm headed to a museum to stay cool this afternoon! Just have to walk between parking garage up hill to the museum.
ReplyDeleteI hope you blog about the museum. About the tomatoes, I'll take anything I can get. We have a long growing season so if they get started, they'll have a chance.
DeleteYou had the best reaction to the news. Planting seeds is hope for peace.
ReplyDeleteI think it's better than wringing my hands, anyway.
DeleteSeed planting seems like a good response.
ReplyDeleteI suspect a lot of sudden gardening is happening in the US.
DeleteI love the summer living room with all your creations (and the wedding ring quilt). I don’t have seeds to plant, so I drew. Yes I did!
ReplyDeleteGood! Just getting started is hard. I'm glad you did.
DeleteYour home is wearing its summer clothing. I like that.
ReplyDeleteAnd the tiny bunny- so dang cute.
Our Carolina wrens say, "You're sweet, you're sweet, you're sweet!
Among other things.
Let us plant seeds and gather roses while we may.
I believe birds do have regional accents, and why not? I like a little change of season that doesn't involve too much work.
DeleteYour summer living room is very pretty. I do like your garden too.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I enjoy my diminutive home. It's enough to take care of.
DeleteYour summer changeover looks nice, Boud , and lighter colors always make it seem cooler especially when the weather turned very hot, like now 🥵. I find it's good to do other things when world events are upsetting, sadly a lot of the time ow.
ReplyDeleteI agree, we do what resistance we can, we encourage people, then we try to enjoy what we can find. Agonizing doesn't help.
DeleteA change for summer is a lovely idea
ReplyDeleteAnd we certainly have a summer. Heat wave and storms here.
DeleteWhat a beautiful living room. I love the artwork and the quilts. My furniture is covered with dog blankets and right now those blankets are filled with fur. It's the semi annual dog and cat shed off:)
ReplyDeleteMy quilt covers date back to many years of pets! I routinely cover even though there aren't any pets now. Thank you for the nice words. I enjoy this room.
DeleteSuch a cute bunny. I always see the big Arctic Hares.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen hares here. Long ago in Yorkshire but not since.
DeleteOh, the wee bunny!
ReplyDeleteI went awwwww, as I was taking the picture. You know an animal is tiny when they can walk under a gate.
DeleteThe bunny is adorable! Ahhh....yes, white is perfect for summer! Thank you for your post and I also love the illustrations! :)
ReplyDeleteWhite means cool! Even in our approaching 100°+ heat index.
DeleteLove your cool looking sofa covers. Cool, as in neato, but also cool as in comfortable. :)
ReplyDeleteThey're much better now than the warm winter throws now laundered and stored till fall.
DeleteYour place is so inviting!
ReplyDeleteI have to keep reminding myself not to let them steal my joy. :)
Rita, your joy is worth so much more than their sabotage. Go you!
DeleteSquirrel proofing? Are those cotton tips dipped in something pungent? I love the whimsy. Your living room is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe qtips are soaked in essential peppermint oil. Squirrels stay away, they don't like it. It doesn't harm them though.
DeleteI love the wedding ring quilt -- that's so pretty there and looks nice and summery.
ReplyDeleteIt's working nicely this year. I used not to like it, too symmetrical for the eye. But with the English paper pieced pillows, the curse is off!
DeleteA Carolina Wren story. Back in 2020, I had one of my grandsons here on a daily basis for "school." He was in first grade and due to Covid, school was online seven hours a day (his Mom was working from home). I helped facilitate things for him and sometimes for the teacher. He had his own desk behind mine in my home office. As such, I was privileged to hear his lovely teacher and all his classmates throughout their school day. One morning, while feeding birds on my deck I heard a call that sounded just like the children repeatedly calling out to their teacher while online. The Merlin app identified it as the CW. Won't print the teacher's name, but I eventually captured a few minutes of the bird call on a video and sent it to her. We had a good laugh about it. Even now when I hear the wren calling, I think of her--she did such a great job under difficult circumstances. That grandson is now moving into middle school. Time flies along with the wren.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good wfh insight!
DeleteWhat a cute bunny!
ReplyDeleteI too have spent the morning in the garden escaping the world.
The garden is as much the world as the political doings. More, really, so much of it long precedes us and will outlive us. Mosquitoes particularly around here.
DeleteThe Cornell website for bird IDs - Al About Birds - often has multiple recordings of calls for each species. A nice way to spend some time.
ReplyDelete*All About Birds. I hope no one thinks I'm promoting artificial intelligence about birds!
DeleteBirds are more versatile than we might think. Cardinals have a whole repertoire of songs, I suppose for different messaging. It helps when you can watch the bird singing in rl, so you know who it is.
