June day at home and away, and strategic planning for 6/14

I wake early these mornings, and get my walk in before it gets too warm and the shade moves away.

Only a couple of frogs at the pond Wednesday morning, jumping, but I could hear them farther away

Back home I did a bit of garden cleanup, mainly battling with catbriar, and carried the debris to the trees to add to the grass cuttings left by the landscapers.

Then I transplanted the spearmint into its own pot and gave it a place outside.

Back, California poppies I think, front, small zinnias, spearmint and large zinnias.

Finally got the lemons processed. I use lemon zest a lot, but don't love using the micro plane. It's effective though. I like tackling life with zest (!)

Since the lemons were large, the rind was thick, so I chunked the lemons up for lemonade, rather than juicing them.

Thick rind usually means less juice, though the smell was still heavenly.   And I dealt with yet another sinkful of dishes, amazing how they add up.

This afternoon I read, well maybe slept, on the deck, Frederica, old Heyer favorite on my Kindle.

There's a lot of woodpecker activity close by, drumming in trees, rattling calls, so I'm hopeful of a nearby nest. I haven't seen who's active, could be flickers or downies or red bellies, since we have all of them.

The cardinals are busy and there are tiny peeping sounds, maybe young getting around to flying. That and chickadees, and wrens.

I see very little activity,  but I hear quite a bit. A crow was chased out of the nearest tree by a bluejay, who may be nesting there, too. It's an avian condo development in a couple of evergreens.

This is a great time of year, not too hot yet, not too buggy yet. Wednesday was my  sister's birthday. I think she'd have been 96. She made it to 92, living independently at home till her last couple of days.  I'm hoping for something like that. I'm in much better health than she was at my age, so we'll see.

Happy day everyone! Getting ready for Saturday, those who can march and demonstrate. Thank you!

And if agitators attempt violence in order to discredit the march, here's the strategy

Ted sez do what we can, be safe, and loud.

  1. I like lemon zest. I remember when I was working still, I'd use a veggie peeler to get thin strips of lemon rind to add to my bottle of water that I sipped on through the day.

    1. I like a touch of lemon in water, too. Or in anything really.

  2. I’m imagining the fragrance of the lemons. A favorite of mine. Wishing you sweet memories of your sister.

    1. The memories are mixed, but I can find a good one here and there.

  4. You inspire me to put things in empty pots. Soon! I let spring just slide by, and soon summer will officially be here!

    1. It feels like summer now, but I guess officially not yet.

  5. Great strategies for the 14th. I’ll be anxious to see how it works out! Hoping for the best!

    1. I'm hoping for massive peaceful protests with attempts at outsider violence unsuccessful.

  6. Thanks for posting the Sit-Down Wave strategy. Let's hope all goes well on Saturday.

    1. I'm doing my bit to help ensure it's large and calm and pointed.

  7. You've had great loss in your life.It comes to people who have to admit they are no longer middle aged but old. You are doing everything right to live to be quite old.

    1. My goal is to stay well and enjoy my days, and up to now, that's working pretty well.

  8. Good advice for protest strategy. Fingers crossed for no incidents.

    1. I'm hopeful. There are hundreds of protests planned, they can't disrupt all of them.

  9. I am hoping that the entire country comes together on Saturday to protest what's so terrifyingly going on.
Now. Having said that- will I be out protesting? No. I have never been an in-the-streets protester and have always felt guilty about that. But masses of people, or even the number of people in a grocery store, can cause great anxiety in me and yes, I know I should just overcome that and do it anyway.

    1. You can do other forms of resistance. I've described a lot of them in this blog.

  10. Thanks for the protesting advice. This will be my third protest against this administration and so far each protest has been great. People chanting, waving, laughing, singing - so many terrific signs and some costumes even. Hoping for a huge protest with no rain!

    1. Thank you for doing it! I think the best signs are often nsfw, so msmedia, if they cover at all, unlikely, won't show tgem. But social media will.

  11. Is spearmint what we make mint sauce with? It will be interesting to see how Maga responds to the protests. Good advice you have there.

    1. Usually mint sauce is made with peppermint. Spearmint is more a dessert taste, making tea. Or chewing gum.

  12. I am glad to see people speaking up. My bumper sticker says 'coresist'. No matter what. No matter who. No matter where.

  13. What a beautiful pond walk. Love your description of all you can hear around you. Peaceful protesting...millions of peaceful protesters sitting if they have to...will reveal the violence of Trump's government. I so hope his parade is a ridiculous embarrassment. What a lovely, lovely post. Thanks. :)

    1. I hope we focus on the good people protesting and resisting, instead of obsesssing about the other guys.

  14. That's great advice for a protest, especially if large numbers of people follow it. I don't think we have any anti-Trump protests here in London this weekend, at least not that I've been able to find. (Obviously we couldn't call it "No More Kings" if we did!)

    1. You've got the Naked Bike Ride protesting oil dependency, and a Not My King at the Trooping the Color Saturday. Plenty to be going on with.

  15. Its black Friday here today. I will be taking teenagers and dropping them off for a movie tomorrow, which is my other side of the world action to ignore fauxking fanfare.

  16. Things are getting worse and worse in Cali (and everywhere, for that matter.) So far, I'm still planning on going to No Kings but I'm a little nervous about it. Are you attending an event?

    1. Don't believe what you're hearing about California. Eye witnesses are telling us it's very small and contained. The few breakouts are getting far more exposure than warranted. Breathe! My style of protest is daily resistance on several fronts rather than marching. As you will have observed in this blog. I've been active since the day after the election. But do go, stay safe.

  17. I hope the sit down protests are widespread and made visible in media. broadcasts. Satyagraha, a determined but non-violent resistance to evil.

    1. They will be widespread but will only be seen on social media and IG and YouTube accounts. MSM won't touch them. They'll be trying to make the DC foolishness look important.

  19. It's likely it will be needed at some of the protests as there are a lot of them. It's a very good idea. The aroma of lemon is good.

  20. I hope it rains on his parade, but not rain alone. I want a huge thunderstorm. Huge, gray clouds. Lightning bolts. Thunder the likes of which has never been heard before. Flooding in the streets that are closed. Everyone has to go home.

    Love,
    Janie

  21. Everyone just be careful Saturday. That's all I can add.

  22. Saturday will be an interesting day, more so than any previous Flag Days, I think.

  23. We bought a bag of lemons this week with the thought of zesting them and then putting the juice and zest in the freezer for future use. The bag was cheaper than buying just two individual lemons.
I'm worried about Saturday and what's to come, even though I don't live in the US. Saw an interesting 'bit' on I think it was facebook that was pointing out the sending in of the troops to LA over peaceful protest and not to when the capital was stormed. Mind you, the orange idiot was behind that so stands to reason the troops wouldn't be deployed. It just gets worse and worse.
