Cleaning day, so I was out at the library, then Textiles and Tea, Victoria Manganiello

Torrential rain earlier Tuesday, which I mostly ducked, at the library. Here's a bearded collie whose owner probably would rather dry himself than the very fluffy dog. So he held the umbrella over the dog and got wet himself.

And once inside I observed the construction going on out in the square, reorganizing walkways and doing something about the fountain, currently out of the main pathway.

When the rain cleared up, this mom brought her baby out to watch the boys with toys happily pushing gravel about

Later, home to anchovy toast and tea for lunch, then Textiles and Tea with fiber artist and fiberoptic specialist Victoria Manganiello.

She's a Brooklyn-based artist and professor,  working at the intersection of weaving and technology using fiber optic cables and LED lighting to create and illuminate her art. She has made many public works and collaborations, and looks forward to making works that can be exhibited outdoors.

She has an idea for a playground! I think adults would have to be held back to let kids have a turn! I wonder if this might be a future Archewell Foundation project.

Anyway, this is what she does

She's an exciting artist and a congenial teacher, worth following.

I started George Gently and found it very well done and too violent and dark for me. In the return pile. I'm waiting for the same actor in Judge Deed now. Also another season of Foyle.

Reading is divided between good old Brenda Ueland and Dorothy Sayers.

Happy day, everyone! The rain gave way to sun in time for an evening walk.  This, swiped from Barbara, thank you, says about everything we need for today

  2. The art work is quite interesting to look at.
I'd let the collie dog dry naturally and keep myself dry. Just avoid the massive shake off of water from the dog.

    1. I think he doesn't want his entire home wet from the dog shaking! Probably easier to change clothes.

  3. Somne owners have 'dry-off' robes, like canine towelling robes, for their dogs.

    1. We used to keep towels right at the front door, to throw over the dog before she shook water all over the house. It was a race.

  4. That poor mama! Waiting for the rain to stop so she could get those kids out of the house!

  5. A cheerful post: dogs, children and the people who love them! Throw in creativity and close with a positive. Thanks.

  6. Love the bottom sign. I've protected an old dog from rain in my ambulatory days...better than clearing the mess and I liked the dog.

    1. Yes, if the dog is too big for a raincoat. Or too ornery!

    1. It's lovely to see little kids "talking" about what they're seeing.

  11. Aww, I am disappointed that Gently didn’t work for you. Did you ever do Morse, the original Morse, not Endeavour?

    1. Yes, hated him! I liked the spinoff where his much smarter colleague was the main character.

    2. Aww … you hated two of my faves, but you did like Lewis, so I find some tolerance. 😎

  12. I do like that kindness/peace meme. (If meme is the right word?) Sounds like you timed your visit to the library perfectly, avoiding bad weather! I imaging drying off that dog WOULD be a nightmare.

    1. Anyone who's ever had a beardie would do anything rather than have one shake water and hair all over a small condo! They're lovely guys, but..
I did sit in the car reading while I waited at one point, but reading outside the library is as good as inside, if with less amusement.

  13. Seeing the mom bringing her child out in the dampness after the rain to watch the big equipment reminded me of when my son was little in a stroller and made me smile.
You find the most interesting and talented artists! Her work is quite unique.
    Have a wonderful day. :)

    1. There was a little boy inside the library explaining to his mom what the (possibly dump truck) was doing and the "move thing", (with arm waving), crane, very excited about it. He needed a bit more vocabulary for the event.

  14. The weaving is really quite beautiful. I have no interaction with children at all. I am sorry about that. Morse is one of my favorites!

    1. Going to the library is a good way to see kids in action. I sit in the food allowed area, and moms bring babies and lunch there, so I enjoy without being creepy.

  16. I do hate it when you are anticipating a show and it fails (and violence is one of the reasons that I fail shows). We got Ted Lasso from the library recently which didn't fail.

    1. I'd forgotten how violent it was, and how classist -- posh London cop, accent proper, comes north to rescue the locals who talk with regional accents. More or less. Actors rarely get northern accents right. But it's okay, we've got a Londoner on the job now. My socialist little heart rises up in protest at the colonial mentality. Yes, don't upset grandma!

  20. Having once owned a collie, I can tell you without hesitation that he would much rather dry himself than the dog! Wet collies take forever to dry!

  21. Interesting to see an artist working with LED lighting. I sometimes have wondered if it would be something I could attempt to add to one of my landscapes, but the size of the battery pack is a bit of an issue. I haven't done a search to see if there are any that have small batteries and perhaps there are.
